Elizabeth of Austria from a painting by Franz Russ, (c.1860).triple layered lace skirt over crinoline hoop. Velvet train with appliquéd detail. Intricately beaded boned bodice
over typical mid-nineteenth century corset. Complete reproduction costume including corset, crinoline, petticoats, bum-roll, beading. From £1200

This gown of ivory lace satin and tulle was inspired by a painting of Elizabeth of Austria by Franz Russ, (c.1860).

It is an example of classic Victorian court dress - a triple layered lace skirt, scattered with mother-of-pearl sequins, worn over petticoats and a crinoline hoop. The velvet train is edged with appliquéd details in gold. The corseted bodice is encrusted with intricate beaded patterns in crystals, sequins, pearls and facetted stones.

The original gown, as shown, was hooked at the back and worn over a seperate mid-victorian shaped corset. It was made as a theatre costume - designed to 'read' at a distance. (The original, including the crinoline frame is held at the studio and can be viewed). This gown works well as a wedding gown - with or without the train. It can be constructed in a variety of fabrics and costs vary accordingly - from the richest silk duchesse satins with silk tulle and antique laces and metallic lace to edge the train; or alternatively modern laces and mixed fibre satins, with nylon tulle are just as effective, as shown.
